Heya, my beauty geeks!! Hope you all are staying hydrated and moisturising in this dry weather. If you have oily-combination skin like mine, chances are you have struggled endlessly to find a moisturizer that moisturizes but without the grease. During my hunt for the perfect moisturizer that can withstand my oily skin and the humid weather of the city that I live in, I came across this little superstar, the OIL-FREE ULTRA MOISTURIZING LOTION WITH BIRCH SAP from COSRX.

In this post, I'll share the product claims for the COSRX OIL-FREE ULTRA MOISTURISING LOTION WITH BIRCH SAP, whether it lives up to those and my experience. Keep reading to find out more.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE COSRX OIL-FREE ULTRA-MOISTURIZING LOTION WITH BIRCH SAP 

If you are a skincare addict, you must have definitely heard of the infamous K-beauty brand  COSRX (Yes, you have heard it before from the snail mucin of which you can find a full review HERE and an ingredient discussion HERE) and today I'm reviewing another cult favourite from the same brand, the COSRX OIL-FREE ULTRA-MOISTURIZING LOTION WITH BIRCH SAP. It is formulated with 70.8% birch sap and helps to hydrate and calm the skin. I've been using it since 2021 and I can understand why it is so hyped after the COSRX snail mucin essence. 

It comes in a transparent bottle with a pump dispenser. The packaging is quite sturdy (and looks pretty on my shelf 😁) and the pump dispenser works well. The product itself is transparent, very lightweight, not greasy at all and has a soothing feel to it when applied. It spreads really well and only one pump is enough for my whole face and two pumps for neck and face. It is transparent and has a slight lemony smell but nothing too overpowering. It leaves a dewy finish when applied which turns completely matte when absorbed completely. It is slightly sticky even after it is completely absorbed but nothing too greasy. 

I absolutely love using it in my A.M as well as my P.M routine. It is extremely hydrating and leaves the skin feeling supple. As it is a gel-emulsion moisturizer, I use it by itself during the summers but during the winters I need an extra layer of hydration so I top it up with a cream-based moisturizer. It might not be enough for extremely dry skin types but as someone with oily-combination skin, this is my holy grail moisturizer. Although it is not completely oil-free (it has lemon peel oil and tea tree leaf oil), it doesn't feel heavy at all and neither does it clog pores. 

The only downside to the cosrx oil-free moisturizing lotion is, it doesn't work well with film-forming ingredients underneath. Serums that claim to give a 'glow' generally contain a polymer that forms a film on the skin thus allowing light to reflect through it and hence giving the 'glowing skin'. So, this cannot be used to seal in such serums. Like, it doesn't absorb well and just sit on top of the skin when I use it to seal my daily vitamin C serum even if I wait for a good 15 minutes before layering it up. Other than this minor drawback, it is overall a great moisturizer. 

Now coming to the claims, it claims to be a daily lightweight yet extremely moisturizing lotion and it lives up to these claims but I'm not sure about the suits all skin types claim. It claims to be suitable for oily and combination skin and yet again lives up to these claims as it is absorbed quickly and doesn't leave much of a residue behind. It is also quite hydrating and works the best when used on a damp face. It also claims to leave skin fresh, soft and smooth and again it delivers. 

So, if you are thinking- 

Should I buy the cosrx moisturizer with birch sap if I have oily skin? Yes, it absolutely does but it is not going to be absorbed if you are using it on top of your glow serums. 

Should I buy the cosrx moisturizer with birch sap work if I have dry skin? Well, there are better options out there. 

Does the cosrx moisturizer with birch sap work for sensitive skin? It has lemon peel oil and tea tree oil so you might want to double-check it before buying.

So, the COSRX  OIL-FREE ULTRA MOISTURIZING LOTION WITH BIRCH SAP is SKINCHEM reviewed and SKINCHEM approved for the oily/combination skin gang.
